Men’s Facial Moisturizer

Thinking about your skin as you age

Disclaimer: Cosme Hunt provided me a free sample of men’s moisturizer in return for an honest review.

Besides death and taxes, growing old is another constant in our lives. As my late 30s creep around the corner, I’ve changed my skincare routine to include wearing moisturizer and sunscreen daily.

I have been very fortunate (or cursed) with looking years younger than my actual age and never had a problem with dry skin, but being proactive about taking care of your skin and body will have its benefits in the future.

Background

My routine is pretty basic and simple: I apply a moisturizer immediately after shaving or showering daily. As an active runner and swimmer, I also keep skincare top of mind since I am exposed to chlorine and sun more often. However, I was never one to purchase pricer brands such as Aesop or L’Occitane and stuck to brands such as Nevia or Kiehl’s.

Introducing Zigen

Instead of a generic stock photo of a man smiling and applying lotion to his face, I present to you a product photo instead:

3.5 oz container

Some thoughts that came to mind when I received this product:

“Is Zigen a reputable brand in Japan?”

“What makes a ‘good’ facial moisturizer?”

“Do I need to follow a strict application routine?”

“Will this cause an allergic reaction or a breakout?”

Although I don’t have the answers to these questions, I trusted Cosme Hunt’s knowledge of skincare to recommend something appropriate. I am also fortunate enough not to suffer from sensitive skin, allergies, or anything else which would cause me to be extra cautious.

Initial Impressions

After using this for less than a week, here are my initial impressions of Zigen:

Things I enjoy:

  • Absence of any strong fragrance or smell
  • Only a tiny amount (quarter sized) is needed to apply generously to your face
  • Gel is a semi-transparent, which applies clearly to your skin
  • Slightly cools your skin after being applied
  • Does not make my face feel extra oily

Things I could live without:

  • Hands are a little sticky after applying
  • $50 price point is hard to justify when trying a new product blindly
  • A 3.0 oz size would be perfect for traveling

Instructions on how to use and apply the facial gel.

As instructed, it is pretty simple to use: apply after washing your face and let it work its magic.

Closing Thoughts

To be unbiased as possible, it is hard to recommend something I have been using for such a short time and a perhaps a follow-up post is needed after several months of usage.

Will I continue using it? Definitely.

If you would like to try it yourself, it can be purchased directly from Amazon.

Special thanks to Chloe, Saki, and the rest of the Cosme Hunt team for giving me the opportunity to review this product.
